'Mythbusters' Duo to Host Steve Jobs Documentary

'Mythbusters' Duo to Host Steve Jobs Documentary

The death of Apple computer founder Steve Jobs on October 5 naturally prompted an outpouring of praise and media commentary. So it's no surprise that now The Discovery Channel has ordered its own documentary about the high-tech visionary, called iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World (airing Sunday, Oct. 16, at 8 p.m. ET).

Mythbusters Jamie Hyneman, 55, and Adam Savage, 44, are set to host. For those unfamiliar with their popular science show, this duo goes about answering questions like "Could your laptop save you from a speeding bullet?" and "Are motorcycles better for the environment than cars?"

“Someone once said that to follow the path that others have laid before you is a very reasonable course of action, therefore all progress is made by unreasonable men,” Savage told Entertainment Weekly. “Steve Jobs was an unreasonable man. He didn’t simply give the public what they wanted, he defined entirely new ways of thinking about our lives in the digital space: productivity, creativity, music, communication, media and art. He has touched, directly and indirectly, all of our lives.”

The documentary will feature interviews with those who knew Jobs well (including his friend Daniel Kottke, who backpacked around India with Jobs after high school, and was an early Apple employee) and creative types whose careers were impacted by his vision (such as musicians Stevie Wonder and Pete Wentz).

Some may say all these special tributes are overkill. But if a show about Jobs can inspire even just one up-and-coming tech genius to change the world for the better, it's worth it!
