The Situation Defends His Snooki "Love Tap" on 'Jersey Shore'

The Situation Defends His Snooki "Love Tap" on 'Jersey Shore'

Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino has gotten himself into a sticky situation!

In case you missed it, during Thursday night's episode of Jersey Shore, a visibly annoyed (and far too grabby) Sorrentino, 28, raised his hand to his 22-year-old cast mate Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi after she refused to leave a club when he wanted to.

Now, Sorrentino (perhaps doing damage control for votes on Dancing with the Stars) is defending himself. "Snooki sometimes drinks a little too much. She is unaware of her surroundings and unaware of what's going on," he told MTV News. "Everybody was leaving, and she was the only one staying there. We usually go as a group and stay as a group."

"To avoid what happened in season one (referring to the infamous moment when Polizzi was punched by a male bar patron), I really wanted to try and keep an eye on her," he continued. "Not necessarily slap some sense into her, but let her know, 'Hey, you can't be here by yourself. You're a little girl, and the whole group was leaving.'"

But, here's where Sorrentino's "apology" hits a snag: Polizzi wasn't alone in the episode. In fact, not only did she have her best friend Riley visiting from out of town, but cast member Jenni J-WOWW Farley had also opted to stay behind in the club.

We'd like to believe Sorrentino had his roommate's best interest at heart, but from what we witnessed on the show, he was simply frustrated that he wasn't getting his way. Plus, Snooki may be small, but she's pretty scrappy!

Still, Sorrentino sticks to his story and also assures that it wasn't a slap, but rather, "a little love tap."

"It's not like I punched somebody in the face," he says. "It's not like I did a full smack, a hard smack. It was a little tap to her cheek. Like, 'Wake up, you're going to get hurt.' And if you care for somebody, that is definitely acceptable, because you're looking out for somebody."

While Sorrentino admits he may have "went about it the wrong way," he certainly won't be changing his name to "The Remorseful" anytime soon. "I never regret anything," he says.
