Michael Jackson To Appear On Pepsi Cans

More than one billion cans will be imprinted with the late pop icon's image.

More than three years after <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jackson_michael/artist.jhtml">Michael Jackson's</a> <a href="/news/articles/1614744/michael-jackson-dies-at-50.jhtml">death</a> , the pop icon will be at the beach, the pool, the 7-Eleven and everywhere in between this summer thanks to a new deal with PepsiCo.According to <a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304746604577381792902984470.html?KEYWORDS=pepsi" target="_blank">The Wall Street Journal</a> the #2 soda company is going back to the future with a massive campaign that will have Jackson's image imprinted on more than one billion cans of soda as part of its new global "Live For Now" marketing push.<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Remembering Michael Jackson - One Year Later" id="id:1642144" width="415" height="255"></div>Nearly 30 years after Jackson first agreed to be the voice of the brand, an agreement has been reached with Jackson's estate, though reps for both sides declined to disclose the financial terms of the deal. When Jackson signed on to shill Pepsi in 1984 he was paid a then-record $5 million. A representative for the estate said the PepsiCo campaign is the first branding deal executed since Jackson died in 2009 at the age of 50.While Jackson was handsomely paid in the 1984 deal, it was during the filming of an ad for that sponsorship that his life was forever altered. While shooting a commercial for Pepsi, a pyro effect went wrong and Jackson's hair caught fire, seriously burning his face and scalp and requiring multiple skin grafts and resulting in intense pain. It has been speculated that Jackson's addiction to pain medications may have begun after the mishap.The new campaign is timed to coincide with the 25th anniversary of Jackson's Bad album. PepsiCo will start distributing the special-edition cans in China this weekend and they will arrive in the U.S. later this month. The 16-ounce, collector's-edition can in the U.S. will feature a special download code that will link to downloads of Bad remixes. Though TV ads will debut in China later this month, it has not been determined yet if similar spots will air in the U.S.<a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a>

Of all the images that make up the video for <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>'s <a href="/news/articles/1690963/justin-bieber-as-long-as-you-love-me-music-video-premiere.jhtml">"As Long As You Love Me,"</a> none are as memorable as the moment that Michael Madsen lands his first punch on the singer.Madsen's overprotective-father character may have enjoyed leaving Bieber bloody for wanting to date his daughter, but in real life, the actor said he didn't take any pleasure in the one-two punch."I didn't exactly enjoy slapping him around," he told MTV News on Thursday, one day after the video premiered. "Had he been a prick, had he been a brat, you know, I might have had fun with that. But he was actually, he was the opposite."<div class="player-placeholder right" title="Michael Madsen Has A Soft Spot For Justin Bieber" id="vid:822276" width="415" height="255"></div>If fans are wondering if Bieber was nervous to take a beating for the <a href="/news/articles/1690932/justin-bieber-as-long-as-you-love-me-video.jhtml">Anthony Mandler-directed clip</a>, Madsen explained that Bieber was more concerned about having it look real than scared to take the hit."He was very respectful, very respectful and decent to me," he said. "I think he wanted it to be well-done. I don't think he was blowing it off. I think that I've been around enough to know I can tell if somebody isn't really doing their job or taking what they do seriously. And I could tell from early on in the morning that he was. He wanted it to be right. He wanted it to be specific and had a good car, a '68 Charger. That's a pretty bitching car, you know? I saw that damn thing parked in front of the house and I went 'Wow, I hope that's mine.' But they put me in a Rolls Royce; not too bad at all."So, given that Bieber and Madsen trade physical barbs and verbal ones, does the actor think Bieber has a future in Hollywood? "He had good eye contact. He was focused. He didn't have a double. I think he should leave the acting up to me," he laughed. "He can sing though. See I can't do that. It goes both ways. He can sing his head off and he's damn good at it, and I couldn't get close to that. Coldplay, Led Zeppelin Album Covers Featured On New British Stamps

On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.The albums featured in the new series are the <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="515">Rolling Stones</MTVNLINK>' Let It Bleed, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="993">Led Zeppelin</MTVNLINK>'s IV, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="973">David Bowie</MTVNLINK>'s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="503245">Mike Oldfield</MTVNLINK>'s Tubular Bells, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="977">The Clash</MTVNLINK>'s London Calling, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="267">New Order</MTVNLINK>'s Power, Corruption and Lies, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="758">Primal Scream</MTVNLINK>'s Screamadelica, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1118">Pink Floyd</MTVNLINK>'s The Division Bell, <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1041">Blur</MTVNLINK>'s Parklife and — the most recent album on to make the cut — <MTVNLINK type="artist" id="1111141">Coldplay</MTVNLINK>'s A Rush of Blood to the Head.Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for IV — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery."Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time."Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their Rush of Blood stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date.""We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."
